ANATOMY OF THE KNIT
This project is an exploration of knit, combining both machine and hand techniques. I worked with a manually operated double-bed knitting machine and experimented with hand knitting using both large and small needles. Seeking to strip knit down to its purest form, I embraced a more primitive approach, emphasizing simplicity and raw texture. This is also why I chose white, a non-color, to highlight the essence of the material itself.
Some pieces are transparent, allowing the viewer to see their reflection in the mirror placed in front and allowing the light from the window behind impact the artwork, creating an interactive experience with the knit. My composition was inspired by Michelozzo’s Palazzo Medici in Florence and his play with organising textures on the facade.
