RE-BUTT

Re-Butt is a project that explores innovative ways to clean and repurpose discarded cigarette butts into pontential useful materials. Since ciagrette butts are made of cellulose acetate, a recyclable plastic, the project experiments with various processing techniques, including heat pressing and natural adhesives, to transform this overlooked waste into something valuable.

Beyond material exploration, Re-Butt also delves into the broader context of smoking culture, visualizing the average annual cigarette consumption per smoker. The project is grounded in precise calculations, determining the amount of usable material obtained from a single cleaned cigarette butt. These findings inform reflections on potential applications, future developments, and the role of recycled cigarette butts in sustainable product design.
